Gregory Te Kanawa
Greg Te Kanawa is a contemporary artist that started in traditional Maori art as a carver and has progressed to making sculptures in steel.
Born on 19/04/1965 he lives and works in Hamilton and has family connections in Maniapoto, Ngati Hei and Ngati Whatua.
Greg says his main mentor was his father Tutunui Te Kanawa who back in the day carved at Turangawaiwai for the late Maori Queen Te Atairangikaahu.
Greg makes his art in his workshop in Hamilton and uses his engineering background to design and produce stunning wall to floor sculptures.
Greg is a versatile artist and has worked on large outdoor art projects and is constantly doing commissioned pieces.
